For my first post, I wanted to open up a genre less explored by today’s general EDM audience, in today’s world of House and Dubstep: the wonderful world of Drum n Bass. Generally characterized by an upbeat tempo (160-190 bpm) and a heavily effected deep bass line, Drum n Bass is guaranteed to bring up the energy in any nightclub or rave. Camo and Krooked are no exception, as the Austrian duo really turn up the intensity in this track. Within seconds the listener is warned; the producers didn’t intend to scare children, but there is only a warning when there is a possibility. When the song first drops, the adrenaline starts flowing. The filthy bass and constant sirens betray a chase scene within the folds of the music. Close your eyes and try to not start sweating. I dare you. Just when your heart starts beating and the blood is flowing, the song drops again with the phrase, “Give me all your money!” New scene: I just robbed a bank, escaped in a firefight, and hundreds of police cars are in Hot Pursuit in a Blues Brothers-esque type chase scene. This is where the Drum n Bass influence really shines through, creating a dancy and fun environment to swallow your ears. With a few more drum changes, an expansion on the thick bass melodies, and constant attention to detail, Camo and Krooked create a song with many different faces, perfect for raging and smashing dirt. I always said EDM was about feeling the music, and as such, try to listen to this one without feeling slightly guilty for breaking the law.
