This section will be comprised of songs that are not necessarily the newest tracks out there. Rather, it will focus on providing you with songs that are absolute must-haves for any house and electro fan.
Newsflash: Madeon has been around for awhile. He had to have been 14 or 15 when this jam came out. But this is the epitome of nu-disco, and carries elements of 80s pop and dance music. This is just the kind of music you need when all you want to do is dance. This is my ultimate feel-good track at the moment; there’s no way it won’t put a smile on your face. I currently have it runnin’ on repeat, and I’m sure you will, too. Doubtless some of you have heard this because it came out two years ago. But if not, you’re in for a serious treat.
Hardwell released an exclusive preview of this track yesterday and it’s already getting some serious attention. This Dutch EDM mastermind has worked closely with Tiesto and ranked #24 in DJ Mag’s top 100 DJ list of 2011. This remix has all the insane build ups I’ve come to expect from Hardwell and the drop does not disappoint. Get ready to hear a lot more of this high energy banger in the upcoming months. Turn it up and get down.
This track has been out for a while (in the current music climate 3 weeks counts as a long time) and I really think everybody should give it a listen. I used to rock out to Kill Paradise back in the days defined by teenage angst and it’s awesome to see familiar artists experimenting with new genres. James Egbert’s production has impressed me nearly every time I listen to his tracks and this song is no different. The poppy synth sounds combined with the heavy bass are an amazing combination and I’m really digging all the new directions bass music has been taking recently. I’m including the VIP of Sub Focus’s banger Falling Down, and if you’re not already familiar with the original then I’d suggest checking it out. Turn it up and get down.
I haven’t exactly been on my game when it comes to posting, but I’ve finally made some time in my hectic schedule of doing nothing so far this summer.. I came across this track today and I absolutely love everything about it. The ethereal vocals immediately catch the listener’s attention before a clean drop accompanied by sounds I’m really hoping to hear a lot more of in the upcoming months. There are some dope bass modulations scattered throughout the second breakdown that should satiate the hunger of all bass heads. Turn it up and get down.
It’s time for EHusky Nation to get familiar with Oliver (Joel) Twizt, the man behind so many inspired dirty-dutch anthems. Born in the Netherlands, he describes himself as that weird black kid who was into the “Ruffneck rules the Artcore” scene. But all of this changed when he started producing with Fruity Loops in 2000, at the age of 17. Let me be the one to say that we are all glad he did. Between chasing girls and attending classes, the talented dutchman was able to hone his musical production skills, and craft a sound that we at EHusky have come to know and love. A little bit of Afrojack, a little bit of Laidback Luke, but a whole lot of original style. Take ‘Love Trip’ for example, and you’ll hear a funky, disco-esque jam with a splash of soul. Now compare that to the filthy, down and dirty dutch smasher that is Oliver Twizt’s remix of Sandro Silva’s ‘Get Lower’. What you’re left with is extreme versatility, a quality that is quite rare in many of today’s electronic music artists. We’ll be with Oliver at Laidback Luke’s Super You & Me Party on Governor’s Island June 16th. Front row. Goin’ CRAZY. And we can’t wait. Based on the information presented above, it’d be in your best interest to join… So what should you take away from this? 1.) Oliver Twizt is the man 2.) His music will most definitely rock your world.
Essential Jams:
Love Trip (Original Mix) – Oliver Twizt
Get Lower (Oliver Twizt’s Rotterdam Carnival Remix) – Sandro Silva ft. Bizzey
Speak Up (Oliver Twizt Remix) – Laidback Luke ft. Wynter Gordon
Pierce Fulton has emerged in my mind as one of the most exciting and innovative producers out there right now. Plain and simple, the kid’s got it all. Balancing a college workload and a full-time producing/DJing career is no small feat, but according to Pierce’s mother in the Las Vegas video on Pierce’s YouTube channel, he’s handled his situation quite well. Says he wouldn’t trade his hectic lifestyle for anything. Would you? I identify with this dude because he’s just a college kid living the dream, and he stays humble. Am I living the dream? Far from it, but I recognize Pierce as a kid who represents all of us who share that dream; let’s be honest, he’s doing a damn good job. His monthly mixes never cease to surprise and entertain us at EHusky, and for that we are grateful. For May, us avid fans are blessed with a slew of refreshing jams. Among them is the 90s Piano Mix of Michael Cassette’s “Memories”, Pierce’s remix of Fabian Gray & Emanuele’s “When U Fall”, and Moguai’s Crushed Lyme Mix of “Lyme”. Bottom Line: Pierce Fulton’s May Mix packs a solid punch, and lacks the predictability that plagues many monthly mixes.

Sometimes it’s necessary to bring back some beats that may have slipped through the cracks, something that I fear may have happened to these next three songs. You’ll be hearing from Chuckie, David Tort and a few more artists, so be ready for some prime time listening.
Beautiful Lie (Chuckie, Ortzy & Nico Hamuy Remix) – Keemo ft. Cosmo Klein - We all know Chuckie tracks to be extremely hard and characteristic of dirty dutch in just about every single way. However, this tune is far more laid back and uplifting. It has one purpose: To make you feel good.
Rushin’ (Original Mix) – Skitzofrenix, Jeff Dobleu - I discovered this jam while watching the Australasia Recap video on Avicii’s YouTube channel, as his tour manager was filmed multiple times during the tour going nuts and reciting the lyrics before the drop: “Two pills and I was rushin’!!” It’s just a fun song that will effortlessly ignite a crowd.
Acid Rocker (David Tort Remix) – Henrik B - Acid house has made a return in a big way, and David Tort played an integral role by releasing tunes such as this one. 5 AM club banger, plain and simple. It’ll delay the sunrise in your mind.
“I love how big house music has gotten… It means a lot to me…” These are the words uttered by one of my best friends in the midst of a drunken, shirtless crowd on the beach at Oasis Cancun. And for me, I must say that truer words have never been spoken. There’s just something about waking up in a tropical resort to the pounding basslines of “Kick Out The Epic Motherfucker” from the beach a quarter mile away. Talk about instant hangover remedy… But jokes aside, Spring Break 2012 was an eye-opener for both long-time house music enthusiasts such as myself, and also for those who know nothing about it. I have no doubt that hundreds of kids went home with their ears ringing and also with a new hunger to explore the now wide world of electronic music. Since the dawn of the MTV days, music has and always will be an integral part of any Spring Break experience, but after witnessing it first hand, the smooth and rhythmic melodies that dance music has to offer was incredibly infectious during Spring Break season 2012.
First and foremost, Puerto Vallarta bore witness to the largest Spring Break music festival ever, Electro Beach. The festival housed names like Tiesto, Avicii and Fedde Le Grand. We’re talking A-Listers, folks. For a long period of time, I regretted not booking a trip to see that, until I caught wind of the talent that would be gracing us with their presence in the sultry clubs located in downtown Cancun:
Night 1: Dayglow with the Manufactured Superstars
Night 2: Chuckie
Night 4: Avicii
Night 5: Laidback Luke
Night 6: Wolfgang Gartner
I must admit that the Manufactured Superstars set is nothing but a blur in my mind, and thus I cannot write a solid review about it. Here’s EHusky’s take on Dayglow: The countdown is fun, the initial paint splatter is fun. However, you probably won’t see a goddamned thing for the rest of the night and the inside of your ears will be fluorescent shades of pink and green for about a week. The bottom line: It almost doesn’t matter who’s DJing if you’re too close to the front because it is complete and utter chaos and you most likely will have no idea what’s going on. Who knows, maybe I was just too drunk. Cut me some slack, I didn’t go to Cancun for the food… Also, note that Dayglow appeals to a wider audience than most shows because, “OMG, it’s a paint party!!! Yay!!!” This means you are likely to hear a more mainstream and played-out set. Now hear this: I love the MF Superstars, and I would go see them headline a show any day. My main point is that if you really want to see an artist perform, don’t do it at Dayglow; The paint serves primarily as a distraction and ultimately takes away from the musical aspect.
I will be doing individual reviews of the shows I saw that week (except Avicii because it was such a poorly planned event that I did not stay for his set). In the meantime, though, I’d like to hit y’all with a few songs that were played day in and day out during my stay in Cancun. If you were there, you’ll want to listen to these as they may bring back some good memories, or at least help to fill the void left behind by your week-long blackout.
EHusky’s Spring Break 2012 Essentials: Retrospective Edition
1.) Camorra (Original Mix) – Nicky Romero - Let me start by saying that I am very proud of myself; If you listened to the mix I uploaded the day before leaving for Spring Break, this was the second song. If only my psychic abilities pertained to more useful things… Anyway, this song features a minimalist drop and a tropical vibe that is very foreign to Nicky’s usual style; An all-time favorite for me.
2.) Epic (Original Mix) – Sandro Silva & Quintino - I can’t tell you how many people I identified this song for down there. It’s just one of those tracks you can’t help but dance to…
3.) Pacha On Acid (Original Mix) – Afrojack - Dirty Dutch at it’s finest, plain and simple. If the Netherlands were tropically located, it would be a crazy place…
4.) Is This Love (Chuckie Remix) – Luis Lopez vs. Jesse Lee - Is this love, or is it just Spring Break?
5.) Dominicana (Goin’ Nowhere Vocal Mash) – David Mayne - Unfortunately, I did not hear this song played once, as it is not widely known. However, it has always reminded me of clear blue water, white sand, and lush palm trees. If I DJed those beach parties every day, you can rest assured that this would have been played.
As I’ve said before, spinning an Essential Mix for Pete Tong’s BBC Radio 1 show is the ultimate step in a producer’s career when it comes to taking it to the next level. Avicii’s career blew up after his essential mix, and recently we’ve heard from Arty and Porter Robinson, both of whom laid down incredible mixes. Alesso’s also falls nothing short of amazing, as he throws into the mix some classics, as well as some of his own new tracks, including an ID at about 1 hr 10 mins. Some other tracks to know are “Years”, “Eclipse (Why Am I Doing This)”, and a brand new remix of Keane’s “Silenced By The Night”. After this release, as well as headlining his own show entitled “Less Is More” at Mansion in Miami this week, EHusky feels confident in saying that Alesso has thrust himself even further into the limelight, solidifying his position as one of the best and most influential producers in the game at this point in time.

KhoMha is a young producer from Medellin, Colombia (wonder how he feels about Vinny Chase…), who specializes in huge, big-room house music that sometimes bleeds over into the realm of trance. Some of his major influences were Daft Punk, Pink Floyd and Deadmau5. That being said, his style in certain tracks reminds me a lot of Michael Woods. In my opinion, that’s some pretty high praise; Michael Woods is a master of his trade. Anyway, this KhoMha dude has had releases on a few major record labels including Armada, Ultra, Pinkstar and Spinnin’ Records. It seems as though the only direction he’s moving in 2012 is up, and EHusky is excited to see his progression. Now to the good stuff…
507 (Original Mix) – KhoMha - When I refer to KhoMha’s music as a reminder of Michael Woods, this is the kind of track I’m talking about. Progressive build-up, beautiful strings and chords, and an airy yet bass-filled drop. Delectable. Download
Myth (KhoMha & Halbro Remix) – Hard Rock Sofa & St. Brothers - This is a tune in which the Deadmau5 influence really begins to shine through; It’s fidgety and anticipatory in all the best ways, yet it has a dark, melodic get-up that makes it a pleasure to listen to. Download
Hold Your Breath (KhoMha Remix) – Matt Darey ft. Leah - Definitely my favorite track in this bunch. It has everything you need… Catchy vocals, great build-up, and a great drop that takes the listener by storm. Download
